I just found this on Inspector Chin's blog ^^. One of the good things in Hokuto Musou is that each costume has 2 states - the pristine one you start in and then the battle-damaged one later in the level.

Lol now I understand what you were saying about Mamiya, Will. Surprisingly nobody liked the costume until it was revealed about it's battled damaged state.
